JGB - series vs split coil

I have been listening to some 1984 JGB - and some songs (Cats Under the Stars, Second that Emotion, others) seem to have a thick humbucker tone - did Garcia indeed use series with JGB much more that the Dead?

IMO, Jerry could be fatter tones wise with JGB and was. Either amp or series, hard to tell sometimes. Personally, I think both!
