I have a 2x12 Celestion, a 4x12 Roland, and a 1x12 as part of a comb amp - what is the advantage of a 4x12 as opposed to a 2x12 - dispersion? any tone differences?

Teach yourself. Set up your rig in the largest space you can use, have someone play your rig in its varying cabinet combinations, on various settings, volume, etc., while you walk about the room. Your perception of what's going on is the most valid account of its properties.

+1. Also you can position a small recorder in different places in the room if you don't have/want a friend to play your rig.
