I would think a set of brass strap buttons wouldn't be too hard to find.

Buy gold ones and strip the plating off, maybe? Shouldn't be too hard, gold plating comes off if you look at it wrong. Leaving it overnight in something acidic like OJ or Coca-Cola might work.

I have two sets that are "OK":

http://www.allparts.com/Oversized-Gold-Buttons-p/ap-0684-002.htm

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Hardware,_parts/Electric_guitar:_Strap_buttons/Strap_Buttons.html

and I can find a half-dozen others that could make do, but nothing so far "just exactly right".

These were the JOR buttons- pretty dang close:

Are those the ones you have on the Moriarty in the photos you posted Waldo? They look pretty close.

My sugarplum got me a very nice strap for my birthday, much to my liking:

A lot like Jer had back in the old days:

The top looks really close.

Thanks strummin, I'll try these.

And thanks for the offer waldo.

kinda bringing back an oldish thread, but I just saw these and was kinda surprised how much they look like the Tiger buttons (which im pretty sure were Alembic strap buttons right?)

I'm not telling anyone else what to do but I'd double face palm myself if I'd passed on locking strap buttons for my custom one-off Tiger on the grounds that Jerry didn't use those.

Thanks jerry1996x- I bought a set. I've looked at those older Gibson styles before, but these look closer than most. I'm guessing Irwin used an older Gibson style on Tiger.

Jon- My Phiga came with straplocks, but #1- I just don't like the look, and that's part of what I'm after (for better or for worse). #2- if I were playing slash metal and jumping around the stage I might consider that straplocks would be worth it, but most of my playing is sitting at home playing with no strap at all.

I know, I know, start the stream of horror stories.... :-)
