The iRig is a possibility since the MBA has the same TRRS interface as the iPod/iPad. But any decent audio interface would work as well.

If it's the IK stuff, I wonder if he's using the Phil Lesh preset I did for Amplitube?

There is something to be said for digital these days. I have an axe-fx and it is incredible. Maybe it's not irig at all maybe someone wrote (meyers) some new code that not commercially available yet. Remember these guys were always on the edge with new technology.

The software is actually quite good. I've been using it since '08.

It could easily be a touch screen laptop. I also wonder what the rack units with the blue faces are. It could be computer control over rack units. I can do this easily with my Metric Halo ULN-8s and often create in ear mixes for the drummer, which he controls wirelessly via iPad. I've been thinking about running my effects through the ULN-8s, but have so far been too lazy. I just don't use that many effects these days.

It's the bomb. I have two ULN-8s and a 2882 for my mobile recording business. This weekend I'm recording Kutandara, a marimba band (more like an orchestra!). Lots of fun!

The ULN-8 is without a doubt the best converter/preamp interface I've heard. David Glasser, of E72 mastering fame, has been using them for quite a while.

He probably did, and also mic'd a cab.

He most likely was direct. Alot of times the cabs are miked up as a back up or just to add to the direct tone. Typically when I do sound I will take the basses signal pre bass amp and mic the cab. The Edens were also more conducive to being miked up then a full range Meyer system.
