you can modify the mu3 to take a conventional 18v power supply. I don't think they take that particular one (not for sure), not the original ones at least. I thought mutron had their own power supplies you have to get. You can get a battery clip adapter that plugs into a 9 volt battery lead tho. seeing that 2 batteries are plugged into the pedal to volt up to 18, I am sure you can plug in the 18 volt dupply to one of the battery leads and be OK.

bad info! absolutely do not use an 18volt power supply with the original Mu3. it does not use 2 - 9 volt batteries for 18volt operation, it has a BI POLAR power supply, supplying both a +9volt and a -9volt power supply. thus why it has it's own power supply, and or the replacement from lingenberg.

Exactly.

The Mutron power supply has 3 prongs. One is ground, one is +9v and the other is -9v. This is the GOOD way to run opamp circuits. It's a "bipolar" setup and some say that's partly why the Mutron sounds so good. Opamps like this true +/- supply setup. You can fake it using TWO separate 9v power supplies properly connected, but be careful. You don't want to present reverse voltages to those opamps. Careful as you go.

Hello!

Just bought a musitronics mutron today, one of the old ones using the 9v batteries. (I'm excited :-) ). While i am probably going to use the two 9v for a while, i saw this power supply for sale:

http://www.caesound.net/mutroniiipowersupply.aspx

It looks legit to me, but i could be wrong. Anyone know about this one?

I picked up a standard "wall-wart" style, and a DC Voodoo Labs adapter from Richard Lingenberg.

http://www.lsound.com/

Both are cheaper than the CAE product, and they come from one of the original builders. Richard also repairs & modifies Musitronic Mutrons. Great guy. Also had him rework my MXR Dist+ and Phase 100.

I'd highly recommend his products & service.

'Haven't seen that CAE Mu_III wall-wart... looks very conveinient to me.
I've had great MuTron service from Richard L, also (Mu_III, Mu_Oct, Mu Phaser_II).
I currently use his Mu_III power supplies, but if I ever need another I will try that CAE.

The Phase 100 that you had re-worked...was it a new block version or an old script one? Just wondering if he does any type of mods to the newer block versions to get them sounding like the older script version.

Thanks.

I/(We?) want to use the jack in the back, TS.
I personally don't want to use two wall-warts, or have wires permanently coming out of the battery compartment.
Just a personal preference for me at least.
No worries.
With that said, I'm not sure Visual Sound makes the "wall-wart to 9V battery" connector anymore???
If you have a link, that might truely be helpful for some folks.

Sorry I missed your post TRG. I'd say call Richard. I have the Block version of the old-school phase...1979 I think. I dated it with the pots when got it, but now can't remember whether the Dist + is a '79 or the Phase.

Richard is a great fellow. He'll give you the low down.
