It's all personal preference ... to me, less is more, the junction box is one more thing to carry plus two extra patch cables to worry about, as well as extra space for the box in the rack drawer or on the pedal board.

For my Fractal setup, going direct, it's just plugging in the three cable ends and I'm done. For my old rack rig, it was something like 30 patch cables, any one of which could have caused a problem for me at a gig.

I do keep a spare Lava cable on hand, though. YMMV

THE CHEAPEST WAY (of my little understanding) IS:

Standard guitar cable, preferably right-angled. ($20 for 20 ft.)
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Live-Wire-Advantage-Series-1-4--Angled---Straight-Instrument-Cable-100260163-i1128386.gc

TRS to TRS stereo cable, also preferably right-angled. (around $30 for 20')

Then, wrap it all up into a nice, single snake with techflex! You'll probably need the 1/2" one. (around $15 for 25')

SO...
20+30+15=$65, where as AO is charging $85 for 15'. This can be cut down to a whopping $45 if you already have a standard guitar cable, which I assume you do.

This is a far cheaper, more self sufficient way to do it than buying it all new from AO or HT. As for the junction box, here's the schematics for it, parts are super cheap and readily available at a local Radio Shack.
