Agreed... probably. It sure looks like there's something going on there besides smooth EMG or Bart soapbars though... but swapping in J's doesn't seem like his style. If he wanted to experiment with pickups I think he'd just have a whole new bass made.

I AM onto something. Screws at all four corners, so they're not EMG or Bart. Maybe something like a Nordstrand?

Almost positive this is the answer. the wood grains are different and I did notice behind Phil's rig there are 3 more Modulus basses, when I saw them at the Knick.

No doubt this is true - the woodgrain between the brigde and knobs gives it away.

I'm still curious what pickups he's trying out. They're not Barts, EMGs, Nordstrand, or Delano. So what's he up to?

Why does he have a Digitech multi-effects unit ontop of all that expensive rack mounted stuff?

My bassist friend owns the same model, and I never found a worth while sound on it. Too much latency and too much digital 'slush'. It was the muddiest, murkiest pedal I've ever used as well.
