sneak peek at new "wolf" guitari

Postby mgrossm » Sat Dec 17, 2011 12:47 am

Here are a few pics of a guitar I'm supposed to get in the mail early next week. Builder is Andrew at aoguitars..can't recommend him highly enough...just extremely talented and a pleasure to work with. Guitar is true to jerry's in all ways other than some obvious cosmetic changes I.e.,cocobolo pup plate, back plate, pup selector switch plate, tuners, and knobs. Everything else is true to form. Andrew was actually commissioned by the guy who bought the real wolf to make a couple of replicas...so he actually had the real wolf in his shop and has all the measurements etc....anyways will post more pics next week if there's any interest.

Stunning piece of art. Just beautiful.

Andrew is currently working on Jerrifying a strat I sent him and assembling and cabling a rack rig. Through the planning process, he has been such a nice, patient, knowledgable guy working out the details and logistics. We are lucky to have Andrew using his skills to help us in our Jerry endeavors.

OMG!!! That takes my breath away. What an inspiration!

Beautiful! I like the cocobolo pickup ring and selector switch plate. Definitely a different look than brass, but looks great. Stunning guitar all around.

Andrew is definately one of the Best Master Luthiers out there! and he contributed immensely in the acquired info of wolf. He is also one of the Luthiers, along with Matt Moriarty, that i took with me to Cleveland to look over the JG guitars at the RnR HOF. in fact, he will be the first to tell you that he is only Tiger away of having the trifecta of Irwins in his hands, along with both Cripes. All that aside, he is one awesome dude to know and his work goes right up there with his character!

just have to ask though, why no dimarzio humbuckers?

peace,
waldo

Hey waldo ,

What are dimarzios? Just kidding..short answer is I just wanted to try the wolftones-- had a pair once before and really liked them. So if they don't cut the mustard I'll swapem out for dimarzios.

Just curious...how much do u think the pups played a role in ping jg's tone?

first off, it is your guitar and whatever you like is what should be in there. if a jerry tone is what you are after, sure the Dimarzio's are a surefire way of getting there. think about this, jerry is known to have tried all kinds of pickups, but he ALWAYS went back to and pretty much stayed with the dimarzio's after going to humbuckers in his irwins and cripes.
