And for that kind of dough, you would think that they could spring for new strings - and maybe even give the guitar(s) a little bit of cleaning - and besides those guitars are w/o a doubt (in my head anyways) the ugliest guitars Jerry used.

I'm sure they are just going by the general rule of antiques that the untouched condition from when Garcia last played it makes it higher in $ value.

So I wonder if the "1977" TB500 began its life with the UGB loop installed, and he just switched right over from the "1976" TB500...? ah- the problem I notice here is that he was already playing the "1977" by December 1976, possibly as early as October. Kind of like driving next year's model car?

I see nothing wrong with the prices. Its what I would expect to pay for a legends belongings. And as for cleaning the guitar I wouldnt want it to be cleaned. And i wouldnt want the broken string replaced. Id take the guitar as is and put it up on my wall and thats how it would stay. Awesome stuff though. Wish I coulda bought Tiger. How sick would that be?

For my 0.02 worth, if I had the dough, I would clean the guitar up, put new strings on, and even (gasp) play the damn thing - why would I want to hang it a wall - if one wanted to honor Jerry's legacy, wouldn't playing the instruments be a better testament than building a shrine to his instruments?
