The only reason Jerry played the Travis Beans in the late 70s is that wolf was getting refitted and refinished by Doug. Jerry does mention, possibly in the 78 Guitar Player interview that he liked the Travis Beans because they were very consistent, the most consistent of any production guitar.

Jerry also stated that not only did he not like to change guitars, he did not even like to change the setup on his guitars.

^ What about Wolf?

The 1st version of Wolf was initially used for a period of a just under 2 years, 9/73 to 8/75. Then, if you count the 2nd and 3rd versions together (and ignore the month-long stint on the Ibanez Musician during June of '78 and the TB-1000A appearing in December '78), for another period of a little under 2 years, from 9/77 to 7/79. Following that, it came out of mothballs for the last 3 months of 1989 ( and couple of Space segments just prior), and afterwards showed up for cameos in '90 and '93. Add that all up and you get a little over 4 years total.

By sharp contrast, he played Tiger exclusively for over 10 years straight, 8/79 to 9/89, during which time no significant mods or changes were done.

i remember reading somewhere that jerry said they didnt stay in tune too well
