In no way as good looking as the Wolf. I think the Wolf has two more frets but I think notes that high just suck on the guitar. I never finished either the headstock or the neck itself and both are just natural maple and untreated which makes for an incredibly smooth feeling neck. It is never sticky and is really a joy to play. I have a good friend who works at Roger Sadowsky's shop in Brooklyn and he put the inlays in there for me, I wanted them to be simple minus the 12th which is a detailed "S". My name is Steven. My camera really does no justice to the guitar but this will give you an idea. The bridge is a Wilkinson and the tuning mechanisms are Sperzel lockings. Highly recommend those as well. Soon enough when we get the You tube thing rockin' for this forum I'll do a sound demo of it. It really sounds incredible. Any one else have any pics of Jerried Out guitars? As waldo mentioned before the Dozin site is an excelleent reference. It does appear however that the bridge pickup mini switch is wired incorrectly. The ground should be wired to the right hand side of the switch not the left

I think the one Jerry used as his main Strat was a Rosewood fret-board. It was a 1954, and was a gift from Graham Nash actually.

That's the first I've heard of Jerry playing a '54. If you mean "Alligator", it had a '57 or '58 neck, with a maple- not rosewood- fretboard on a '63-'64 body. And it was only his main guitar from approx Nov-Dec 1971 to May 1972, and then overhauled and played again from May to Sept 1973.

A burst/rosewood '63 strat was used from late 1969 to about Feb '70, and again in early '71 (possibly two different ones)... a burst/maple 1957 strat was played in mid-to-late 1972 and a brownish Dan Erlwine custom "strat" w/maple fb was played from around late fall 1972 to at least Feb 1973.

If you are looking for that bright, twangy, somewhat metallic sound you need to go single coil pickup, like a Fender style guitar. Jerry was playing a stock Stratocaster in 1971.

Jerry played several guitars in 1971, strats were among them but he also played a '60-'61 Gibson Les Paul Special, A flame Les Paul with mini-buckers, and an early Rick Turner/Alembic creation with an SG neck.

Thanks for clarifying. I just remember reading about a black one that Graham Nash gave him. Now it all makes sense. Basically it is safe to say Jerry was definitely exploring every option out there.

I saw this G&L Comanche in a magazine a few years back and it stuck in my mind as a beautiful and potentially awesome guitar. I love the G&L style tremolo bridge. Looks like it could survive The Bomb perhaps several Bombs.

Oh yeah, G&L has an import series out now called the Tribute. There are three different price levels, but they are all reasonable. I've played a few at a local store, extremely well made guitars, so you might want to look at them too.

the G&L stands for George and Leo. George Fullerton and Leo Fender. It was the last guitar company that Leo Fender worked at before he passed away in 1991. We all love Fenders, no?....then we all had to love Leo.!

the "Z" pickups on the Comanche are a proprietary design of G&L and I think it is cool looking, not too sure if it serves a sonic purpose.

Phil Lesh played a G&L bass during just about all of 1982. It was his final 4-string bass before climbing on the Modulus bus at the NYE shows of that year. Not sure of the model... a 'burst finish.

Srat, for sure. They sound real good clean through Kustom amps.
