gdtrfb is an astoundingly old tune, probably from colonial times. played slow it's the basis for 'joe turner (come and gone)' and the memphis jug band's 'k.c. moan'.

I saw this on some Best Of Truckers album/CD some years ago in a local grocery store. Still wishing I splurged and picked it up (never saw it again)

I think either bill monroe or the osborn brothers did a bluegrass cover of this song.

the Allman Brothers do an incredible traditional acoustic slide version of the song on a dvd called live at great woods 1991. I highly recommend it.

I don't know how old it is, but in the original movie version of Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wrath," someone plays a slower version of it at one of the stops on the way to California. In addition to being about half the normal speed, it incorporated a E to E7 change before the A, only on the first line of each chorus, and there was a bit of a bridge, as well.
