The more you delve into these things, the more you begin to realize that *everything* makes some difference ... incrementally. The strings, the pick, how the guitar's action is set up, the height of the pickups, the cabling, totally open cabinet back versus mostly open back, speakers a fraction of an inch away from each other on the baffle board or three inches away from each other ... obviously, a front mounted E120 will sound different from a rear mounted E120. An E120 clipped to the baffle board and held tightly through the cork surround will probably sound slightly different than an E120 that is just bolted on. Can you hear the difference? I doubt it like hell.

Do the machined aluminum block clips have special resonance properties that gave Jerry's guitar extra sparkle? Of course they did. I have it on good authority that those pictures from 90 where there were only two clips on each E120 instead of four was done to counteract the unusually high level of humidity and forecast for sunspots that particular day, and to visually offset Weir's teal polo shirt.

I refuse to use anything by my custom made titanium speaker clips, and only two per speaker. These have been cryogenically treated and then plated in a special alloy to help deflect the magnetic radiation from the voice coil/magnet assembly. I simply can't play guitar without these speaker clips. Every other mounting clip just sounds like crap. And the screws matter too. Hardened stainless steel only. Don't use zinc plated steel from the hardware store. That will also ruin your sound.

I slather some butter on my clips before I play. I find the notes slide out of the speaker cabinet more smoothly when I do.

I use 2 part epoxy (like spray truck bed liner). It holds up pretty well.

The Hard Truckers cabinets come with allen bolts, presumably to seat the bit better and not strip out using a drill to change speakers in a hurry ... not sure the size, but they are big ones.
