Best speakers for Weir rig

What are the best choice of (new/modern) speakers to get Weir's sound from the late 70's to early 80's? I believe he was using 12" Gauss speakers at the time. Getting old re-coned Gauss is not an option. What would be a decent replacement for those? I know they were a heavy, high powered speaker like the JBLs but they don't really sound like JBLs. This question is for a rhythm guitarist friend.

i'd look and see if anyone is doing NEO Gauss yet. maybe they do maybe they don't though i imagine someone will one day.

Somebody on TGP said that Naylors remind him of Gaus but I cannot say for sure but his clean clips were nice!

I think the Gauss speakers sound like JBL's. Bobby uses 16 ohm speakers. I use one 16 ohm gauss and one 16 ohm JBL.

I also have 2 16ohm Tone Tubbys that I bought off Ratdog that sound pretty damn good. I think a lot of players are using Tone Tubbys now.

I'm really curious about the rig Weir had for the Blues for Allah album. He's got the 'clanky' sound - I'm guessing the speakers had metal domes. At the Golden Gate Park show, he had a Music Man HD130. I see some MC2300's plus 12" & 15" speaker (all metal domed), however, I'm not sure who's playing out of which speakers. Also, if you listen to the GAMH show, he's using what sounds like a phaser. This timeframe is pre-Ibanez in terms of effects, so, was he still using his '74 effects? Eventide? Something else?

btw...I have a Crate cab w/ Tone Tubbies that I'm looking to sell - practically new. I live near NY and I really don't want to ship this sucker.

I think I remeber seeing an MXR Phase 100 on the drum riser behing Weir in a photo from that Golden Gate Park show.

Edit: I'm looking for the photo, no luck so far, but I belive it was a Jim Marshall photo shot from the back of the stage.

oh and not to jack the thread, but in all the other pictures wolf is seen being played by jerry. but is this jerry using Irwin's Eagle? he never used it on stage, but jerry had stated he only used in in the studio.
