Estimated Prophet

Estimated Prophet

Got some video of this one. Decent rendition. Fractal AX8 direct. One of my favorite touches on this is how Papa Jerry used to switch in and out of the envelope filter on the verses, which I always do. Much easier on the Tiger than on the Wolf, one of the reasons I never bonded with the Wolfs (Wolves?) that have come through my shop is it's too hard to reach down and hit the effects loop switch between the jacks on Estimated.

And, of course, our Bobby guy lays on the cheese.

Also clicked in a little midrange curve to fatten up the regular tone at about 9 minutes in, I like it, may make it a regular part of the patch on the AX8.

Great stuff -- playing, sound, "production values," everything. Even the "Bob cheese" ain't bad (but aren't his shorts about 10" too long to really pull that off?).

I think he did, at least on Wolf ... you can hear him doing it on 4-22-79 Spartan Stadium, pre-Tiger.

Thanks for the kind words. Would've been nice to stretch that jam for a while but it was a 2-hour free show at a town park so a mix of Heads and non-Heads, we went for a little bit of quantity over quality 8)

What's the difference between the early use of the envelope with the Bean in 1977 as opposed to later in the 80s? Is it just a setting difference or perhaps the difference in guitars? The earlier approach had a much more guttural sound. The envelope didn't seem to open as fast and it seemed to have a thicker sound. In the 80s it got thinner and "quackier" to my ears. First time I heard it used was in Springfield 4/23/77. I love that earlier tone. Maybe it was the Bean.

Playing Dead sounds very good! Incredible quality of the recording, as always.

Ask and ye shall receive ... this is the following He's Gone -> Trucking.

In one of those unplanned sort of bookends I liked how we spontaneously did the slowing descending triplets to get out of Estimated into He's Gone and then did them again to get out of Truckin' into what became Dear Mr. Fantasy ... except the batteries on the GoPros gave out mid tune there ; )

Yummy! You guys are very inspirational. I appreciate your posts because my band mates and I refer to them often.

Love doing the mu > clean pattern on the verses too like Jer did. Tiger obel switch location is easier, and even easier still is to have the switch just below the volume pot which I did on my PRS for practical reasons (small hands and existing body cavity). Cheers.

Thanks, Matt ... it's those little details I always look for.

BTW ... Fractal Audio has some B-stock AX8 floorboards available right now for $1149 ... that's all I'm playing through in those above videos if anyone wants a more portable or fly rig, or a heck of a backup rig if the Twin goes down.
