Europe 72 and Wolf Waldo help me here

Europe 72 and Wolf Waldo help me here

Postby gr8fullfred » Thu Apr 26, 2012 10:18 am

I have been puzzled about the appearance or non-appearance of Wolf during Europe 72.

Waldo's site states that Wolf was delivered in "May 1973".

A list of the Europe 72 tour dates:

GRATEFUL DEAD EUROPE 1972 TOUR DATES
All shows included in their entirety

April 7 Wembley Empire Pool, Wembley, April 8 Wembley Empire Pool, Wembley
April 11 Newcastle City Hall, Newcastle
April 14 Tivolis Koncertsal, Copenhagen
April 16 Aarhus University, Aarhus
April 17 Tivolis Koncertsal, Copenhagen
April 21 Beat Club, Bremen
April 24 Rheinhalle, Dusseldorf
April 26 Jahrhundert Halle, Frankfurt
April 29 Musikhalle, Hamburg
May 3 Olympia Theatre, Paris
May 4 Olympia Theatre, Paris
May 7 Bickershaw Festival, Wigan
May 10 Concertgebouw, Amsterdam
May 11 Rotterdam Civic Hall, Rotterdam
May 13 Lille Fairgrounds, Lille
May 16 Theatre Hall, Luxembourg
May 18 Kongressaal - Deutsches Museum, Munich
May 23 Strand Lyceum, London
May 24 Strand Lyceum, London
May 25 Strand Lyceum, London
May 26 Strand Lyceum, London

If wolf was delivered in May 1973 and Europe 72 was between April and May 1972, then it is impossible for Wolf to be present on the Europe 72 tour, right?

This image was taken from dead.net website:

This shows Jerry playing Wolf. I have seen no other photo of Jerry with wolf on the Europe 72 tour. Is this photo from Europe 72? Did Jerry have Wolf on the Europe 72 tour? Something does not make sense. Waldo please explain if you can, Fred

PS is this photo from the closing of Winterland, the Grateful Dead Movie? Notice two guys on stage holding video cameras

This is most definitely from '74 Winterland run with movie filming. Wall of sound era with the phase cancellation mics.

Only if '73 comes before '72.

Has someone not come down yet?

Occams Razor my friend. When things don't add up look for the simplest explanation, in this case it would be the picture is not from 72! (as previously pointed out)

And since you did not immediately recognize the picture as being from the Winterland '74 shows, I'd say it's time to get a DVD of the movie and wear that sucker out! You've got a big treat ahead of you, especially the bonus disc.

The Winterland '74 bonus DVD is possibly the best live Dead video available!

Great, amazing stuff, 74 and the wolf, I would like to see them release 7-18-1989, just saw the movie on the 19th. It was sick, and speaking of the wolf, it was interesting to see jerry go to rip his solo with the wolf post space during dear mr. fantasy, and one of his jacks was unplugged, he frantically started flicking switches and cranking the 5 way switch left and right, to no avail! oh no! he yanks it off and gets the tiger back from the crew to finish up the tune. still, a classic show, and my favorite era, although 74 was up there, and the early 80's as well.

Somebody once told me that time is an elastic band that is going to snap backwards after it stretches itself out to the maximum.

Speaking of Europe 72 and the Alligator....Do we know whether or not the strat had a blaster in it by the time they went to Europe or was that a later addition?? I know the pickguard was repaird with the brass plate just so it could be played but was a preamp present at that point already??

By far my favorite Jerry Tone and period in regard to his chops....nasty
