Searing75 wrote:I too was using the Carvin DCM200L, and while it performs very admirably, it has that plink sound. I keep it as my backup amp. I bought a McIntosh MC50, and now have full, sweet highs, and no more plinky crap! It's more than enough amp, and will fill small to some medium sized rooms without micing.

I played an SMS -> Carvin DCM200L combo set up for about a year. I was thinking I was going to be sticking with that setup for quite a few years until I scored a nice refurbished MC250 on ebay for an excellent price. To my ear, going from the Carvin to the Mac was similar to going from a stock speaker to a JBL as far as imparting a fat punch to the tone. I'm still getting used to it. I love to pick the low strings hard to get that fantastic rubber band snap and clipping. My playing has definitely changed a little in response.

Right on. The Macs are amazing. I agree that is similar to the change in tone when you finally start playing through a JBL K or E120. Also for me was adding the middle pup. Ain't it fun to play killer Jerry tone?!

So many great players and clips of music on here! I'm honored to be amongst such groovy folks.

I haven't setup my rig at home for a while, and yesterday found me firing it up to try and figure out a problem I was experienceing at a show on Saturday night -- I'm guessing it was an issue with stage power in the venue; I couldn't reproduce the problem. It wouldn't be the first time...

Anyway, Here's a short video of some noodling thru most of my effects. I'm on the middle pickup, single coil the whole time except when I kick the TruTron on and riff on FOTM, there I'm using the neck pickup single coil. My volume knob is about half-way down the whole time.

Great playing and tone. Those D-120s in your rig sound killer. That guitar is not too shabby sounding either.

13 minute medley of my Jerry tone from a recent gig, 3.31.2017, April Fool's Eve, with samples from Dark Star > Bird Song, Scarlet > Fire, Sugar Mag.

Ibanez MC200 (Scarlet Fire Mod) > Wald TPC-2 > Twin (Maestro Mod) > Tubes/MosValve > K120s.

Dark Star and Bird Song are Twin Tubes.
Scarlet, Fire, and Sugar Mag are MosValve.

FYI--this is clean--no additional overdrive added (except of course where I kick in the OD-1 clone or the MXR+ Series 2000). Thus, Wald has really nailed the Jerry tone that we're looking for with the Maestro where we can get that choice natural clipping with just the Twin and a clean signal. Yummy!!

I especially love the thickness and sustain you can achieve when you play below the 12th fret, good stuff! And if i am correct, you are not playing at ear bleeding levels in that small venue but still can get that clip.

Correct, and to be honest, I used the K120s just to save my back, but I should have used the E120s because the Maestro really "needs" them. Volume is the same with the E120s--I used them at the last gig where I had a full dinner crowd right in front of me and nobody was running for cover!

Great playin and killer tone, MattMan! You guys are sounding great. The Waldo Maestro nails it. Ended my searching for "the tone". Thanks again, Mike! Hope to get some clips up of my new band soon.
