Super2 splitting

Have you ever noticed that when you flip the mini toggle and split a super2 and then lightly tap on the poles of the pickup with a small screw driver or such, the coil that is grounded out still makes a faint sound. Is that the other "live" coil picking up the vibration or is the grounded coil still having a small signal? Any thoughts? Has anyone noticed this?

I have noticed this (after "installing" one wrong and restringing the guitar). I'm a hack but did that to test it before putting it all back together and noticed it - kept thinking I did something wrong again but put it all back together and it worked.

If your using super2's and you put the black and white wires from one pickup (together) to one of the middle lugs of the mini toggle switch and a ground wire to the lug adjacent(next to it), your doing it right.
I'm almost convinced that if you tap on the poles on the coil that is disabled, the vibration is being picked up by the "live" coil, but I'm still looking for other opinions or confirmation.

No, super2 pickups are super2 pickups. No special ones just for splitting. Actually, you can split any 4 wire 2 coil (humbucker) pickup.

I, on the other hand, think it's pretty amazing anyone would even notice it (I, for example, have a Jerrycaster with 2 Super 2's - the bridge is a SD - I'm playing the guitar, not tapping on its PUPs with screwdrivers ).
P.S. Just messing w/ya. But let me add this. I'm using 3-way minitoggles on the guitar in question. The first two positions are the typical full HB and split. The 3rd, though, is both coils in parallel. Now this becomes interesting. The 3rd position tone, while not identical to the split sound, is close and utterly hum-free.

actually there were some super 2's that were only 2 conductor.

but on topic, i would have to say that if you have one coil completely grounded out, then the live coil is picking up the hit or vibration when you test/hit the grounded coil.
