The G is a return to the China cat theme before going into Rider.

Check the first time this was done... Feelin' Groovy starts @ 6:50 and the return the China Cat theme is @ 8:11

Why do so many people refer to it as such? Imho, the passage sounds nothing like the referenced Paul Simon tune.

To me it sounds remotely related to the main UJB theme. Here's one of my favorite examples of this jam:

Hmm. I hear the backing chords as D A G D. We do that 8 times, then resolve on the big fat G.
Does anyone else play that? It works in the sense that everything is a fat and happy major feeling

I could see the G vs Bm thing as 2 notes are shared but that last one is very much an A and it picks up with a change to the D to start over again.

I think what you may have missed in my earlier posts is what we do:
D A Bm A x 8 then a D hold (suspenseful build up #1)
D A Bm A x 8 then a D hold (suspenseful build up #2)
D A Bm A x 8 then a BIG FREAKIN G RELEASE! Then back to the D to setup IKYR.

The D A G D worked as you said sharing the D and the b, but the D chord was working because I was putting the A on the top of my 3 note D chord, so I was hearing that A, but was working as that D resolve as well. That D resolve is a nicer build too, as it doesnt give that giant G away too soon. Interesting...

You are welcome, bro! I'm sorta upset that the video we used to study and debate on is not now gone. They took their time with it there and you can see hands clearly as well as both guitars. However, since that time I've learned a few things about it:
- called the Feeling Groovy jam
- was also in Dark Star and Dancin' in the Streets
- for those others would sometimes never resolve, just fade away
- Bobby usually set it up and others fell in behind him
