Need your opinions on this autographed "Reckoning" album!

Postby graveymaster » Fri Jun 13, 2014 8:34 am

Hi everyone. I'm a long-time Dead fan. Saw them about a dozen times in the late 80's and early 90's. Have really been getting back into them via archive.org.

Anyway, I bought this autographed album from a guy who says that his father, an advertising exec back in the 1980's, got it at work one day. Of course, you never know if autographs are real or not, and I'm not sure whether or not to try to get it certified (can an expert know for 100% certain if autographs are real?). Thought I'd post it here to get your thoughts.

Please click here to see the album: http://www.writeanddesign.com/reckoningdead.jpg

(The forum did not allow me to upload picture here.)

Thanks,

It has to be real. Who would take the time to master Mickey's autograph? I have one of his here and it is almost identical.

I am familiar with Phil and Jerry's signatures and they both look real to me.

I remember Jerry and Bob signing each others signatures backstage at Shoreline and clowning each other about it, was pretty funny. I wasn't sure if the person asking for the sigs knew what was going on..

Plus the provenance makes sense; I worked in advertising in NY and we were constantly getting stuff like that, added to guest lists etc., its just part of the business.

Jerry's got a cool signature.

They only other time I've seen all their signatures in one place was when I was having a tour of the Hult Centre in Eugene as part of an architectural class. The Dead were the first act to play there, back in 83 and I was lucky to have been at those shows . The Dead all signed their names on the side of the stage on the edge of the proscenium. Very cool sight on a field trip at school.

I was 18 at those shows, made my way all the way from Toronto and we arrived in Eugene on the way from Portland to Seattle on a whim to see if the box office had any returns and they did! There was about 8 of us and we bought the whole lot. I scored 3 tickets for each show.

The first night was one of the best shows I've ever been to. Standard set list but great playing. Here's a worthy clip, and with some incredible juicy Garcia tones. One of the all time best China Cats. Garcia was floating 2' off the floor of the stage.
