Wickedly Gay

dude, i just had a show tonight. now mind you, tonight was a big night in my area for summer "close out" parties. they were having this thing right by my house where alot of local bands were playing. they also had a similar thing in this really white town called livonia. my drummer told me the gig was at one place but was drunk and mistaked the directions. Intrestingly, there was a township carnival on the intersection that he said, where local bands were playing. instinctively, i drove up as close to the tent as i could before being met by a police officer (livonia PD). i put up the biggest fit about how im supposed to be there and we were going on shortly and i needed to get ready, with no time to spare for this bullshit. anyways, after a bunch of bullshit and finding out i was at the wrong gig entirely, i showed up too late for the show and my band went on and played without me. this is where i kinda get pissed off. i wrote and currently write all of the music for my band including every instrument. i know for a fact how much of the damn music is geared towards guitar playing, and guitar led jam sections. ill be goddamned if these fuckers went on without me, played the whole gig with no lead guitar at all(<b>including improvisational sections</b> which had to have been boring) and then blamed the whole directions thing on me. so i totally got dicked on playin this decently sized outdoor gig and got blamed for the whole thing. see what happens when you make a band with people of ill wisdom. has anyone else had a similar experience at a show where they got dicked or something messed up happened?

it's always your own damned fault. You should have known better than to take directions from a drunk. I also think you should put some thought into getting over yourself. No matter who's fault it was, your band did what they had to do, the show must go on. You should be glad your band is able to play a show without you. It doesn't matter how much you contribute, or even if your the centerpiece of the whole show. YOU ARE NOTHING WITHOUT YOUR BAND. It takes more than one man to make a full show, unless your "that good" and if you were that good you wouldn't be bitching about it on some forum such as this.

editors note: I spent my ages 3-10 in livonia, and my grandparents moved there as part of the fabled "white flight" out of detroit to all the suburbs that surround it, best summarized by David Bowie's "Panic in Detroit":

"He laughed at accidental sirens that broke the evening gloom
The police had warned of repercussions They followed none too soon
A trickle of strangers were all that were left alive
Panic in Detroit, I asked for an autograph
He wanted to stay home, I wish someone would phone"

Livonia brought us these famous white people: NHL players Mike Modano and Ryan Kesler, my wife's friend Olympic Gold Medalist Sheila Taormina and porn star Dani Woodward.

Havin a bad day there killer? first of all, that drunk had just driven there shortly before me so naturally i thought he knew where he was going. and getting over myself and im nothing without my band- I am a solo artist, those musicians are studio players hired by my record label purely to play the sheet music i hand them. the show should not go on without me, and i do have a hell of a stage show that contributes alot more than they do. no, i dont think im "that good". i use the instrument to make art, i dont rank guitar players on chops and shit. and i do really like this forum so im obviously not tryin to start anything but there were more complexities to the situation than you knew about maybe i shoulda typed a little more

Hey man, Melvin Seals and JGB still play shows

Keep in mind, JGB does mean Jerry Garcia Band. 11 years after Jerry Garcia died, the Jerry Garcia Band is still playing.

I had a member not show up for a gig a few weeks ago. Fortunantly, it doesnt really matter. Theres only two of us in the band, and we both play guitar.

Plus, if you are the (self claimed) leader of the band, wouldnt you think your (self claimed) back up band would have been stoked to play a show anyway? so they could have the spotlight for a night?

oh well man, whatever. best of luck finding the venue next gig.

no i totally agree with you. thats very true. im not tryin to say im all up there rockstar status and shit but its like booking a show specifically for a certain artist, them not making it, and the band just goes on with just a rhythm section ya know? no really though im not tryin to come off cocky or anything i just worked really hard to get where im at and hired them to play and i get messed up directions which is definately not my fault, and they all got paid for the gig. not to bitch about money but we just had a recent death in the family in which my cousin had alot of debt. so my family doesnt have a pot to piss in and they're out here makin money off of me. hate to be a dick but its sad how cut throat this business actually is.

my band had a gig at a local pub. we practiced every weekend for 3 months with this lead guitarist. we even practiced the night before the gig. anyway he never showed and we had to play as a 3 piece. we didnt sound bad, i busted out some grand funk, but we never saw or heard from our lead guitarist again. we were doin all this great white album stuff to , we really sounded polished. oh well we found a new lead....actually i could use a whole new band lol

I just have to ask, why was this situation 'wickedly gay'? There were no homosexuals in your story, so I'm assuming you are saying that a negative situation was 'gay'. Why is that? Being gay isn't a negative thing. Why wasn't the situation 'wickedly fucked'? 'Wickedly lame'? There are inumerable things you could say instead of reactionary homophobic remarks. You really ougtta think about how you phrase things.

deepest apologies. definately didnt mean to offend anyone with use of the term gay. i did in fact refer to a negative situation as gay. let this thread be retitled " Wickedly Fucked" as suggested.

Hey man, I owe you and apology as well. I shouldn't have reacted so strongly. The thing is, my sister is gay and I just found out she is getting married next summer. I had a terrible fight with my dad over the weekend because he now wants nothing to do with her. Asshole. So I was feeling sensitive about the whole gay thing. I should know better, people on this site are pretty open minded and inoffensive. Sorry. Peace.
