Levon Helm

Hey everyone, I just heard on the news Levon Helm is now in the final stages of his battle with throat cancer he's been battling since 1998.

"Levon is in the final stages of his battle with cancer," a message reads on Helm's website. "Please send your prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey."

It is signed by his daughter Amy, an artist who often performs with her father, and wife Sandy.

I just read this on Facebook this evening. It's very sad. Levon is a musical treasure and from all reports a true gentleman. There are many of his songs that are part of the soundtrack of my life.

This was about the last I heard from Levon, with Elvis Costello and one of my all time favorite guitar players, Richard Thompson.

Sad news. It's nice to see a great musician who played at a high level his entire life, but it's sad when that life has to end. We'll miss you, Levon.

I wish Levon and his family Peace in his final days. His music is some of the best. This really hits home, my girlfriend's brother recently was diagnosed with terminal cancer, the docs say 3 to 6 months. What are you supposed to do with less than a year to live? Dang it.

Play music while you can.
