RIP Earl Scruggs

Earl Scuggs was the greatest banjo player ever IMHO. He changed the approach to the banjo in much the same way the Jimi Hendrix did with the electric guitar.

Here's one of my favorites:

Sad news, but we were indeed blessed by his music.

Mr. Scruggs is playing with the Angel Band now....

He was a real gentleman too, about 15 years ago the banjo player in my bluegrass band was in Nashville and wanted to go see where Earl lived - when he got there he saw no big security gate so he drove up to his door and knocked. Earl answered the door and Tim explained that he'd been a fan since he was a boy and that his inspiration moved him to learn the banjo. Earl invited him into his home and signed a couple of autographs and couldn't have been nicer to some random dude walking up to his house.
