oops! My poor memory has let me down again :D
The second set from our anniversary gig should have read:
Jack Straw
The Wheel-->
Terrapin Station
Flesh and Mud (original)
*Music Never Stopped*
No Rain
China Cat -->
Dear Prudence
Stranger-->
All Along the Watchtower
Blue Sky
No Sugar Tonight
Goin’ Down the Road Feelin’ Bad
-e-
*It Must've Been the Roses*
Ripple -->
Brokedown Palace
Blister in the Sun

It was a blast, we had a record crowd at the venue. A lot of good friends played with us, we had 4 founding members there. There were also a handful of folks who were at our first performance (my 20th birthday party). There's a lot of folks on this board who have kept bands together for a long time - some even longer than our 25 years I'm sure. You all know that it can be a struggle to keep things going week to week let alone for a quarter century, there have been intense "discussions," maybe a punch or two but all of the people who have played in this band I still consider friends and family. A few of our founding members couldn't be there due to the fact that they live on the other side of the country or even further. Our original drummer Tim, lives in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii and appears to made it through the tsunami ok - it was a good thing he didn't travel and got his stuff to higher ground. He'll join us in Nags Head, NC in June though.

Right on Jonny! Looks like you guys are doing a lot more Dead stuff - lol - hard to get away from the Skynyrd requests huh? :-) we usually do "Things Goin' On" for those folks. Artimus Pyle lives in my neck of the woods now and plays with some buddies of mine on occasion.

Thanks!!
We have been in rehearsal working up some more tunes, Help/slip/franklins is almost there too thanks to Pete's vids and Rusty's too!!
Yes not much you can do when someone says, " I'll give you $20 if you play any skynard song..." That's a no brainer. I like it when someone sees how that motivates us and does it again the next song. I wish we could get $20 for every song!

I wanted to take a min to talk about a fantastic musician I was so luckily able to play with yesterday:
We also played the next Sunday afternoon at a similar bar up the lake, owned by the same people, and this AWESOME sax player came to sit in. Apparently, he had a gig at the Hard Rock in Biloxi and stopped in to play on his way back to the MS delta. He is good friends with another performer hosting the event Will P., and he was the shit. Came to find out he has a PHD in music Theory and is a professor at the univ. here in MS.... Shakedown street and truckin' were FKING awesome. First time we had a sax guy ply with us. He made us sound soooooooo good.
Oh yhea, he could play in ANY key. He Had a flute, soprano sax and alto. His name was Alphonso Sanders and he is just plain amazing. So super nice and modest too. You would never know how big/small he was unless you knew already kinda guy. If you get a chance look him up he has some CD's out he showed me. He has plays/played with all the big Delta blues/jazz guys. What a treat!! And a super fun weekend. I hope it was a good weekend for everyone! :smile:

That's awesome Jonny! A tasteful sax player that can jump in and hang on through those tunes is great. I love playing with horn(s) especially really good ones. I've told the story about Doug Webb from Doc Severinsen's Orchestra sitting in with us - after I explained the first tune's key and changes, etc and heard what he played, I asked him, "do you even need me to tell you the keys of these tunes." He replied, "nah!" Also a super nice guy. I just googled him to see if he was still around and found that he played Lisa Simpson's saxophone on The Simpsons - another good "6 degrees of separation" connection. Goes to show, that the thread about changing keys for horn players shouldn't be an issue :-)

I hear you on the request thing, it's good to be versatile and to be able to play a tune or two that will help you reach out to people like that. It opens them up to music that they might turn their nose up to . . . and pay for a beer or two after the show :cool:
