The fretboard can look pretty awkward the first time you look at it, in order to make it easier for you, here are some ways to visually picture what you are seeing....
Lay your right handed guitar flat on the table. This is the positioning of the fretboard on the page.
The brown background is the "wood".
The grey vertical bands are the frets.
The aweful orange color are the strings.
The top horizontal numbers are the fret numbers.
The left side vertical letters are the Strings Tunings.
