Thelonius Monk and Jazz

Just wondering what you guys think about jazz and people like Monk and Coltrane since they have the same concept about music as most jam bands you know..going into deep jams and excellent melodies..it is what i listened to before i was turned onto the jam scene but it is still my Roots....No Junk No Funk

Love jazz on many different levels. But I am tending to go through phases of listening to certain stuff and just lately I am giving in to my folk and country routes more than anything.

But jazz is no doubt a huge factor in the stuff thats brought us here.

anything davis is my bag, kind of blue is one of the best records in any genre ever. it's really disgraceful that rolling stone has him behind tupac on list of best artists of all time, on my list miles is easy top 10 on greatest musicians EVER. simply a genious, he's the black jerry

IMHO Monk is the greatest Jazz pianist ever. So many great ones out there, but there's just something about Monk that gets me every time. I also love Miles & Coltrane, Wes, Baggs was incredible, Brubeck, etc. I'm really stoked at the moment because I've been turning my girlfriend on to Jazz, at the moment Miles and I just gave her a copy of Bitches Brew and it's the only thing she wants to listen to. Gotta love a chick who can listen to that one. I think In a Silent Way will be the next one. Then maybe we'll start in on Weather Report.
