Tabbing Songs Yourself

I was looking online (yet again) for NRPS tabs but you guessed it there were none so I thought "Why don't I tab out the songs myself." I've tried tabbing stuff out before and I wasn't very sucessful so I was wondering do you just listen too the music over and over and just try and play along until you figure out the song, or is there something special your supposed to do? Thanks in advance.

I usually start out by getting familiar with the song, then depending on how simple the song seems, I start listening to the bass line. With NRPS this should probably give you a good start.

You can probably pick up most of the root notes in the chords out of the bass line. Then once you figure out the chords, you can start looking at the relationships between them to see what key the song is in, which will help you find a scale for the melody line, solos, etc.
