My old band - The Rum Runners 1997

We did only JGB stuff - early 80's style. Diggin through the VHS tapes and found this. This is with my Jerry-fied PRS (bolt on with pick guard). I got my custom Cocobolo guitar in 1997 so this must have been about 6 months before that.

Jim that really is probably the best Jerry tone Ive heard from anybody from that time period. It still stands up today. Thanks for posting those! Really really good. Is that the PRS we were talking about? You must describe the rig. What do you still use and such!

Thanks everyone for the compliments. Looking back on this we did have a lot of fun in this band.

JD - That is the PRS I was talking about. Don't know the name of the model. I got it used for $700. Dark blue stain. Thick Maple cap on a Poplar body. Bolt on Maple neck with Rosewood FB. It had a very good, bright tone. Definitely not like a Mahogany bodied guitar. Kinda like a Strat with a Maple cap. Super IIs with either an EMG JG-1 or Peter Miller (CAE Sound) buffer.

The Fender Twin head (Alebicized) and JBL E120s are what I still use today (although I often use just one JBL). The power amp I was using at that time was a McIntosh MC2200 (using one side - 200W). Just a couple effects in a GCX loop switcher (no effects on the songs posted except Tanged Up at the end which *I think* was my Boss HM-2).

Thanks for the info. I am taking all of this in mind when I started to change my current rig. I went from really complicated to really simple. This is the key (for me anyways) sweet amp, strong clean power, JBLs and soon Dimarzios and Waldo buffer. GCX with simple effects and ADA2fx for delay! Thats it. So much better (for me) and really easy to control. Post some more if you have it, sounds like everybody likes it!

I'm going real simple these days. No more GCX. I just have a small pedalboard case with a distortion pedal and a Mutron III (chained together - Mutron has the true bypass mod). I run my effects loop to the pedalboard. Guitar goes directly to the Twin. Twin to a Mac (MC2120 currently). Mac to 1xJBL E120.

Quick to setup. Fairly light. All the effects I *really* need. Plenty of volume and sounds good too.
