I like G because you can play the whole song in open position (and banjo players seem to want to play everything in G).
The only place I play a barre chord is at the end of the line "Just like You...". Our group decided we wanted to play IV>iv there, or C to Cmin in our case (going to the Cmin at the end of the word "You"
The timing on the chord changes is key. Kinda hard to tab it though, just give it a listen.
Solo'ing is fun over those fast chord changes, I especially like the bridge section B7>C>Cmin, which you can repeat a coupla times over to build tension, then release to the G vamp.
The lyrics also paint a noteable picture in my mind, making it easy to remember the words, and a pleasure to sing.
