Wondering if anyone knows all the modes involved? And the progression lol. I kinda fool around with it but its tough. Sounds like it starts in D dorian or somethin with some chromatics. Then it goes to A minor I think. Then back to D Dorian or w/e that is. Can anyone clue me in so I can jam it like a pro?

I haven't worked on this tune since tuning in to the whole scales/modes thing.

Those chords are a bit different then written in the Jerry Garcia Songbook but seem to work well.

(dont know about the lead mode off the top of my head though sorry)

Deadstein has chords only no tab. I believe I play leads using a F major scale and change it for the A7 Rock a bye my baby part . Hey jackr, I was thinking of getting the Jerry Garcia songbook, does that have leads and picking patterns tabbed out or is it just chords and lyrics (similar to whats on Deadstein site)?

It just has the chords, lyrics and the melody written in standard musical notation. THere are a couple of small tabs and patterns.

Still a great book though.

Use the "or" spot in lieu of F C F is you wanna swing it!

Excellent stuff guys. So ronster you say F major scale which is what I was using. but then you say you change it for the A7. what do you change it TO? lol you forgot that part and thats one of the parts I need most.

Well if you're playing a mode over A7 I would think it would be A mixolydian, since a 7th chord corresponds w/ the 5th.

You are basically dropping the root down a 1/2 step at a time, like in ballad of a thin man, or Missisipi 1/2 step the middle intrumental), or what all those melodies are based on a blues tune I believe Phil is playing now, called Loan me a dime.

Yeah I guess shakedown. Sounds more like A minor to me though. As for strummin I still dont get it. What is a Dmmaj7? How could it be a D minor Major7?
