Here's one of my favorite John Hartford tunes!

Code: Select all
Get No Better by John Hartford

Time = 2/4 (I think)

||: E / | G#7 / | C#m / | E7 / | A / | B / | E / | % :||

Well he caressed her breast she hi dee died his thigh
And the pill lit on the pillow amongst the wine bottle and cheese
They took a Polaroid picture her so naughty in slip yes he did
And just when I thought it couldn’t get no better then it did

Just when you think it can’t get no better then it does
Well it’s always so much better than it ever was
It seems like all the good things come at once, yes they do
Just when you think it can’t get no better then it does

Well they knew what they liked they were neither one of them naive
She said I’ll probably get in trouble but this time I don't care
Well I should go to work but I’d rather be with you instead ehed
And just when I thought it couldn’t get no better then it did

     Chorus

She taught school and he played the five string banjo
She lived here in town and he traveled the whole world wide
Well as she packed the lunch brought the wine he drove the car and scored a lid
Mmm and just when I thought it couldn’t get no better then it did

     Chorus

It was a perfect day for a dalliance and a picnic ooh
And a riverbank was an excellent place to love
Well the sun was a shining and the birds were a singing overhead (chirpy, slurpy)
And just when I thought it couldn’t get no better then it did

     Chorus

If you dig down a little deeper @

http://www.thespps.org/mp3s/

You should see two folders for each recording. One has all the individual MP3's and the other is a zipped folder for quick download.

Here is one of them:

http://www.thespps.org/mp3s/hartford/ha ... 5.mp3f.zip

If you want to avoid downloading each individual file, pull down the zip file.

I dug and dug and found some shows that look sick and others that have David Grisman that are just wonderful and a tasty as can be "Sitting on Top of the World" but no "Get No Better".

I searched thru every folder...

I cannot access myspace here at work but I think this is the correct site for him. And, if so, it has a link to the song:

bump!

john hartford must be realized for the genuine american treasure that he was.

i have over 40 albums of john's and treasure each one. my favorite being 'gum tree canoe', 'radio john', 'john hartford', and 'aereoplain'

anyone who likes american music should seek out john's music. a great songwriter, quirky lyricist, legendary banjo picker, along with ripping on fiddle and guitar. recordings of his concerts with him playing solo and clogging the funky rhythm are amazing. he could also hamboning, make any noise with his mouth, and tell great jokes. he could draw with both hands at the same time and was a mississippi river historian all while piloting his own steam-paddleboat on the ohio river

great quote from john- I'm like a child trying to do everything, say everything and be everything all at once."
