This is a stab at it! let me know if anything is off, Plus! I need help with the bridge in it!
Im a finger picker guitarist so this comes easy. what i mean by the D9th Add B is while picking open D9th chord Pick hammer on the B note on the A string. Listen to the tune for timing.....The whole tune is Open chords, Mostly picking except for the Chorus.HELP WITH THE BRIDGE!

Am
He wore a song around his neck
G
Like some medal of honor
D9thaddB Am
He carried his wisdom like a knife
Am G
An empty pocket was a temporary chain
D9addB
Knowing you've got it coming
Am
Ain't no crime

Am G
Every blue note that rolled off his tongue
D9addB Am
You could feel his soul twisting right in two
Am G
Nobody knew where he came from
D9 Em7
Ah but everybody knew, everybody knew

Dm
He was the real thing
C
No doubt about it
Dm C G
The kind that you remember when they're gone
Dm
The real thing
C
Put here for a reason
DM C Dm
We knew someday the whole world
C Em7
Was going to know his name
Am
He was the real thing (Pick Verse chords)

Am G
She whispered in his ear, and he heard the thunder
D9addB Am
Singing 'bout a world he never knew
Am G
Head spinning round, he began to wonder
D9 Am
Was he made to love her, or born to sing the blues

Am G
He searched inside him for an answer
D9addB Am
But all he found was a troubled mind
Am G
He left her somewhere on the blue highway
(strum) D9 Em7
Oh it wasn't just another love that he left behind

It was the real thing
No doubt about it
The kind that you remember when it's gone
The real thing
Not like passion's fire
But a burning, smoldering, eternal flame
It was the real thing

And sometimes at night he longs for her whisper
But he hides from the dawn, 'cause he always wakes to find her gone

In some broken down dressing room in some major city
The thunder plays an old familiar tune
He spies a face of a distant angel
Outside, beneath the halo moon

Finger on the trigger, needle in the vein
One more bullet, it might be your last ride
This is ain't no no-show, this ain't no nervous breakdown
And it sure as hell ain't the time to let the fool decide

This is the real thing
No doubt about it
Who cares if they love you and you're gone
This is the real thing
So you were put here for a reason
But what gives you the right to quit when you're tired
Anyway boy, this ain't no game
This is the real thing

He wore a song around his neck
Like some medal of honor
He carried his wisdom like a knife

What a great song! and your chords are right there. Someone posted a link to chords and tabs a long time ago and to the best of my memory, your chords are right on. Kudos to your ears!

I tried to learn this song, but gave up b/c I could never summon the vocal energy that Warren puts out for the tune - I figured if I could concentrate on what I could learn from Warren's playing I would end up ok in the end . . .

this ain't no nervous breakdown . . . what a great set of lyrics.
