Six string bass tuning?

Is the standard tuning for a 6-string bass EADGBE or something else?

Low B on top, High b on the bottom, so it would be B - E - A - D - G - b

I also hear that some folks tune the 6th string to C to keep it strait 4ths across all the strings.

People who start on guitar do BEADGB but bass players with few exceptions do BEADGC. Who wants a minor 3rd mucking up the perfect grid of 4ths?

Doesn't anyone play one tuned to EADGBE? I wanted to add one to my stable but be able to make easy transitions between it and guitar.

This. Every bassist I know lugging a 6 stringer has a high C for said reasons.

Emoto, no the low B allows for nice runs lower than the standard bass E and nice 1-5 bops in a lower register.

I think those old Fender Bass VI were octave guitars EADGBe

OK, well I actually play a 5-string. I've never actually owned or played (being left-handed) a 6, so forgive my ignorance on the C vs. B. "Picture a 4-string bass sandwiched in the middle" still applies. I suppose if I ever were to play a 6 I would probably prefer C. My Alembic Epic-5 is BEADG; I tend to play it as if it were just the standard 4 strings.
