The Carl Martin Octaswitch should be added to this discussion.
http://www.carlmartin.com/octaswitch%20review.pdf
I almost bought one, untlil I stumbled into the rack mounted pedal thread.
I like the octaswitch, because its very simplistic, for me a simple caveman, and its and analog solution to remote switching and has assignable patches for each of the 8 switches. The downside to it, is that it does not get your pedals off of the floor.
I think strummin has me convinced to rack it all and go with the wobo. The more I think about it, the more I want to protect my pedals that I have spent lots of time, energy and money amassing from drunks and cloddy feet, especially my own drunk cloddy feet! :drink:

I have completely enjoyed my GCX, it is a good investment, it makes managing effects 10 times easier. When I first got in, bought it used on the bay for $600 plus shipping. It was real clean and rarely used I was excited and happy with it at first sight. I know its pricey for a switcher,The new ones are $800 or more. It has given me a new way with dealing with effects in a user friendly situation. I don't worry about buffers messing with things, one cord dropping my whole signal, or having pedals stacked wrong and their placements clear and bypassed true. All the wires and cords are easier to deal with in my setup. I can dial up the effects layers and/or programs with a switch, and it is consistent from play to play. adding or changing the programs can be done in a minute of not less, simple and intuitive. easy to understand. I am aware you can do MANY things with the GCX from pre amp, processor, amp switching and so on. I thought I would add a personal review here if anyone is thinking about buying one, I would buy one all over again, If you find a good used one they aren't much more expensive than the other effects swithchers on the market, and some of those are really interesting to me too. I think Mars has one that is cheap. you can sometimes find them on the ebay.

Happy switching! JBhttp://cgi.ebay.com/Mars-Manipulator-True-Bypass-Looper-Pedal-Switcher-/250654449722?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item3a5c2b603a

Hi ... for those looking for a relatively small TB strip that's not THAT expensive and can mount right to the pedal board check this out:

Old school, but worth mentioning. . .

Ibanez EPP-400: http://www.harmonycentral.com/products/117927

I found this unit to be extremely versatile. Can be controlled via Ibanez foot controller or MIDI controller.
Front panel allows for programming of the order of efx. E.g., Mutron III -> Octaver -> Distortion
or any order of the up to 5 controlled units you wish.

This is in contrast to GCX which has more loops but even it won't let you 'program' the order in which they fall.

and
Akai MB76 Programmable Mix Bay, Guitar, EFX, Router. Recently someone got one for $53

I guess there is Rockman Midi Octopus too?

Good info listed here. I use a Zoom 505 http://www.samsontech.com/products/prod ... rodid=1624 through my my older Carvin SX 200 the zoom gives 24 effects plus it's programmable to build your own effect plus amp/cab modeling. The Carvin reverb and pressence settings all usually enough for real clean tone especially when the pick ups are blended nicely on my Saga Les Paul. 200 hundred watts is quite enough for my house
