can you explain how these work? so you plug your pedals into these components, do you keep the pedals turned on? do you program the board so that when you hit a number it will turn on the pedals selected?

i guess what i'm trying to figure out is if you can program the switcher so you can have various effects set together at any given time. say you want your envelope and octave going together for one song you press the designated button marked 1, and if you only want the envelope and dist you hit 2?

is that how it works?

For the Wobo(way cool)do you think that each pedal has its own in/out jacks on the back side?
It says to put the pedals in a cabinet,but wouldn't that be a whole lotta chord length?
I was gonna find the smallest unit I could and put it on my board.But the Wobo people suggest that the unit is designed to end that kind of stage clutter?
I think I might be missing something?
I'm looking for true by pass for 6-8 pedals.

Basically how these devices work is that the pedals are plugged into a "box" and then switches bring them in and out of the chain.

For the Wobo & GCX (there is are others but I can't remember I think Access and Bradshaw) these both have you store your pedals in a rack and a controller comes out to you on stage. Trust me when I say this really rocks and is the best thing ever (except for the weight).

The controller doesnt have all the pedals plugged into it;they plug in somewhere else.Then run to the controller!

Correct, mostly. Some systems, like the voodoo looper one I linked where designed to sit on your pedal board and loop pedals in and out while the GCX has a controller that comes out to you.

Thanks! It's taken me years and years and years to find the right gear. Finally, I am satisfied as I have never been before. Yup, it's pretty much my Bobby rig - alot of the same FX but different brands. He and I don't agree on a few things: pedal brands and his love of the bridge pick-up!

I always wanted something like that...so going this route, the pedals are switched via midi? It looks clean, and you can rack (and preserve) the pedals too! Which brands are the best? How much? Sorry for all the questions, now I have to wait until next Christmas!

no, these that strummin has shown are individually relay switched. the midi function is a different animal.

All have pro's and con's. If I were to do it again I'd likely go for the RJM HOWEVER the WOBO is at a FABULOUS price point (<$400 shipped) with the controller.

Would love to have more input here from folks who are familiar with non-GCX brain-boxes and especially those who are fluent with MIDI foot controllers!
