Phil's Greatest Moments?

Phil's Greatest Moments?

Postby freshsamantha » Fri Jun 18, 2010 6:50 pm

Hi!

I'm trying to make a collection for a bass player friend who is trying to become more familiar with Phil's style of some of Phil's greatest 'moments'....just tracks where he really shines.

Some that I have uncovered are:

Viola Lee Blues (6-18-67)
Morning Dew (10-18-74)
Unbroken Chain (3-23-95)

Does anyone have anything to add? I'd love some help! Any great bass solos? Any fantastic versions of The Music Never Stopped, Crazy Fingers, Help on the Way, or Eyes of the World ?

Thanks!

Eyes 7/19/74
Help 4/26/83 or 4/12/83
Other One 11/1/68
Let It Grow 4/26/83

Any version of Eyes Of The World from 73 or 74. One of the things I always look forward to when I get another show from that era that has Eyes is the chance to hear another Phil bass solo. I was always disappointed when I heard post-74 versions of the song and he had stopped playing solos at the end of that song. I never understood why. I like Phil's solos, wish he had played more in later years.

Oh, and of course, the studio version of Box Of Rain. Yeah, I know that's not him playing bass on that track, but he delivers a perfect vocal on the track, perfectly suiting Hunter's perfect lyrics.

I'm biased because I was there, but my favorite Phil "moment" ever was the Jack Straw from Oxford Speedway, Maine on 7-2-88.

Tennessee....because you said this, I forced myself to do something I haven't done in years, and swore I'd never do again.....and that was to listen to that piece of..........music.

I hope that you viewed this as a troll based on the OPs post count of one, because if not, then all I can say is......

Seriously?.....that is where you would point someone who wants to hear Phil's best moments?

The entire Skull and Roses album.I still work on this one,and he still kicks my ass.The tone is really good and it's a good entry into his 4 string style.

I'll second that emotion - Phil dropped some serious bombs during jack straw - very very nice. Recommend checking this one out if you weren't there -
