Bob Weir "Ace" mix observation:

Postby Pete B. » Thu Feb 14, 2013 9:22 am

This may be old news, but, I just noticed that, on the Bob Weir "Ace" album, on a few songs, Jerry is panned hard to the Left.
For example, on Playin' in the Band, if you turn your stereos Balance knob all the way to the Right, and put your guitar amp where your Left speaker is, you now own the Jerry part.
I found this to be a great practice-tool, as this recording of PITB has a nice long jam that was done in the Studio.
Black Throated Wind is mixed in a similar manner.
One More Satuday Night, too.
So you can listen and learn the Jerry parts by putting the balance all the way to the Left, then play the Jerry parts along with most of the rest of the band by turning the Balance all the way to the Right.
I have the Album around here somwhere... but here are some links I found on YouTube:

I really like the Ace mix overall. It was an album I used to judge mixes for a while. I think Jerry was playing a Tele through a Twin. That's what it sounds like to me.
