I was there. It was terrible. Bob came out so wasted he could barely stand. Refused to sing. Stopped playing El Paso after 10 minutes of chords and no words. Couldn't play much of anything. Guitar volume so low - he refused to be heard. Phil got pissed. My wife & I left mid-way through the 2nd set.

Our expectations were so high. I feel disrespected & ripped off.

I'm off the bus!

btw...if anyone cares...his Savage amp has been replaced by a McIntosh with meters (2105??).

Normally, we offer thanks for these posts but damn man, this is terrible. We've all heard the rumors from The Dead tour when the band apparently made a "no drinking" rule mid-tour obviously directed at Bobby. I wish he just got blasted this once, but its come up too many times to be less than a problem. I pray for him to get fixed, get help, go to AA whatever. He is too good and doing too well to get torn down by abuse.

BTW, I'm sitting at 2nd and Mission in San Francisco right now. I used to live in Cali and have been to SF a few times, but every time I come here, it's brand new! What a great wierd wacky fun place it is!!! I'll be scoping for some music tonight!

the video of the El Paso is up on Youtube. Now granted I was not there but it seemed as though he simply forgot the words. Im not trying to say what was up with Bob either way. I too was alamed when scores of friends started to talk about the show. Im sorry you didnt like the show, they have played some great shows so far and were lucky to even have them. A close friend opened my eyes to this by reminding me that Bob in fact is 62 years old and touring again. There are bound to be off nights. I have heard stories of Phil storming off the stage and Bob collapsing. These are hearsay rumors nothing more. I love Bob like a brother and I really hope that with all we know that this isn't a sign of whats to come.

Oh and the Mac is super cool. He recently did a magazine shoot and article about his home Mac setup and it appears it carried over. You go Bobby!

He didn't just forget the words. He couldn't read the teleprompter. He couldn't play. He almost fell over several times. He was out of it! I can deal with the occasional f-up w/ lyrics. This was a serious bummer. It would have been better if he hadn't shown up.

*shrug* From the videos it sounds like the whole band was having an off night. Very little energy all around. Bob's guitar playing always sounds erratic (in a good way), didn't sound that far off the mark from usual. Pretty funny that he totally gave up on el paso lol. Glad I didn't pay money to see that show but it doesn't sound like a disaster that was caused solely by him.

I think the deal was he was sick, could be medication plus a beer or two thinking it would do nothing. Maybe he had some of The night time sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, how the hell did I get in the kitchen medicine.

I don't think he was sick. They would have said something. Instead, Phil got very mad and threw some things after the first set. He was pissed. That's after he summoned AJ to talk with him during the first set.

i used to have a tour shirt that read, "jerry phils weir'd" on this occasion i guess the new shirt could read, bobby phils weir'd.

my first inclination was that he was dosed, and after phil's statements i would have to believe that to be the case. at 62 he's no spring chicken, and probably/obviously was not ready for that sucker punch. i'd be more pissed at whomever took the liberty to dose him before a show. but he and the band, while off, still made it thru the night. although no consolation to you mike, they were just fine tonight by all accounts. DARK STAR!!

Anyway, I still find it interesting that the Mac found its way back into the gear rotation. It does look like a 2105 with his speaker cabs backwards again.
