I'd imagine Bob is adjusting as much in his mind as he is with his gear. It's been 14 years since he played with JG.

In that 14 years he's developed himself as the leader of Ratdog.
He's kept his sound as well as including some JGisms into RD.
Many of the other guitarists he has played with do not sound, play nor are tonally like JG.

He's wrapping his mind around JK playing all the JG licks some of which Bobby was doing.
Also JK's tone is similar to JG's and I can hear Bobby adjusting to that as well. And FX too.

That can be summed up as the RD vs GD sound of Bobby whereby the latter has been dormant for 14 years.

I hear very similar things with Phil be it the P&F vs GD - his approach, style and playing is very different.
I heard that loud and clear during The Dead shows in Chicago. Phil's style was more P&F than GD for sure.

No worries, homey. It's just that so many folks say "well Jerry would.." to this or that but the bottom line is Jerry made a shitload of mistakes and left tons of unfinished business when he passed. Think guitars and rights he left to Koons.

Yeah, I always used to joke with people that if Jerry was God, then that was one hell of a disguise.

I like the way the new band sounds, I do agree that the drummers are a little too busy or out front, though. Also, how do we know that had the Dead continued, that Bobby would not have become more and more of the focal presence? I mean, Jerry would have had to pull off one serious comeback in order not to continue his slide into oblivion, know what I mean? So maybe this is largely the way it would have evolved anyway, for all we know.

I like it, and if they come around my way I'll go see it, but for my taste, it is seriously starting to have an air of hanging around too long or something. Although, at the same time, as I get older myself, I think it's awesome that someone Phil's or Bobby's age can still be out there kicking out jams like that ( outside of the jazz world, that is ). I don't know, almost like it's a nostalgia act at this point, but it ain't exactly the Moody Blues playing Las Vegas.

I don't know where this Bobby as a second tier player or member comes from, from my first show on, people have and had always loved Bobby, and boy if you couldn't feel that at the shows, I don't know what you are on. Yes people make fun, the shorts, and the izods, but people made fun of all of them... I think, at least my friends did.
