New Riders of the Purple Sage

Has anyone gone to see them? They were in town on Thursday, and, I had a great time. They did remain consistent to the NRPS tune list, and it was the first time for me to see David Nelson and Buddy Cage. It was pretty easy to see the influence that the band would have had on Jerry and Vice Versa, but I kept on thinking how amazing it would be to see Jerry playing the pedal steel guitar.

It was very much a country western deal, which I thought was great. I got the impression this band would be best seen in some roadhouse bar playing behind a chickenwire fence.

If they come your way, I'd check them out - hey, it was cheaper than Dark Star Orchestra!

I saw them at Cervanstes a while back and they are terrific! I was really impressed with that bass player they had. Great licks and really good voice. They're playing at Quixote's tonight. K and I are planning on going. Any chance you want to head down there? Welton Street, Denver.

i saw them here in iowa city, and it was awesome. the played like a 20 minute Garden of Eden, and an even longer Dirty Business. they also played peggy-o which was real cool. great show i thought

I saw them in Eugene and I ended up leaving after their first set.

Their music was solid, but fairly unspectacular to me. I love NRPS but it just didn't seem like they were delivering that night.

Plus the fact that I had driven 12 hours that day and their second set started at midnight was just too much to stick around for.

I saw these guys a couple of months ago in Raleigh. They really put on a great show. It was a shame there were only like 15 of us in the theatre they were playing.

I had some awesome pictures of them, but I'm pretty sure I just lost them (along with about 2K other pics) when my laptop HD crashed. Stoopid computers.

I know it's never going to happen but wouldn't it be great to have John Dawson back healthy and playing music with the boys again.

Nelson and Cage are great but I always think of the band being John's, he wrote all those early songs and set it up with Jerry.

Last time I saw them they were on fire and it seems like they still are.

Dawson is retired from performing. I believe he last toured circa 1993. Guitarist David Nelson is the sole founding member currently in NRPS, although pedal-steelist Buddy Cage took over Jerry's seat in 1972- early enough imho to be considered an original Rider.
