JK using a Vantage

Postby Counterstriker » Tue Sep 22, 2009 2:38 pm

Has anyone seen this http://otherones.net/2009-09-18/photos you can see JK playing a vantage that goes for about 300 on ebay! I was really thinking about getting this guitar but seeing him play it really makes me want it!

Anyone know anything about this?

a while ago till I got my ibanez. It was the closest thing i found locally to jerrys tone when i started my quest!

don't know anything about that particular guitar, but do know JK is all about the wood transfer from body to neck and prefers a throughbody. i also noticed he doesn't have his 3 JBL jerry cab either.

Thought I recall him playing a Carvin when I saw that up close this past spring. Could be wrong.

He may have but I know that one was a vantage I saw the V. Also that particular model I am almost positive it's a Bolt on.. There's one on Ebay that is the same electronic setup (from what I see)and it's a bolt on, but the heel isn't bulky. That's why I like those guitars. I'm ordering one tomorrow!

That looks exactly like an Aria Pro II... I have one in my office right now that's getting done up Jerry Style.

He's had a carvin dc-400 for a few years now, but that was definitely a Vantage VS series. I played my dad's 1980 model VS650 in high school and loved it. I'd actually forgotten about it till I saw John playing one. And yeah it is a bolt on indeed, all the VSes were, but they have a very slim profile at the neck joint. They're incredibly comfortable to play and are very resonant, great sustain. My pop's had alder (I think) wings and walnut/maple center stripes. He'd had 2 Dimarzio HB's installed, but the controls stayed the same. 3-way switch, coil taps, 2 tone, 2 volume. Rosewood fretboard on maple neck. All in all really great guitars, very moddable for those adventerous enough, but asthetically and functionally sound all by themselves. Uh oh... now I wanna buy one, too!

Wow, just saw a few Aria pics and some of them are darn close to the VS. Are those bolt-ons as well?

I own 2 vantage guitars. They are probably the most undervalued guitars that I have ever played. They are fantastic. Although I don't own that particular model I do own a similar one and a semi hollowbody. I have had them since the 80s.
On tour '76 - '81

Got a email back from JK and it is indeed a Vantage neck thru. He didn't specify a series cause I failed to mention my original guess that it might be a VS, but he's owned it for a long time and used it a little early on w/ DSO.
