Buying gear on ebay?

Postby caspersvapors » Tue Mar 03, 2009 8:46 pm

on a whim, I was searching for fender super reverbs on ebay. just to browse...I came across these two amps

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200 ... 0315854699

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200 ... 0370347880

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200 ... 0290270475

these amps for the price (especially the 69 one) seem way to cheap to be legit. Most super's I come across from the 60's are in the $1500+ range... so wtf

The only difference I see between that one and the '69 I paid $799 for about 3 years ago is that one is a lot cleaner on the front and mine had Jensen replacement speakers. The rest of the interior is pretty much identical. It's an incredibly sweet amp that's way too loud for most of the small clubs I play in.

These are Silverfaces and these prices seem fine. I "think" I remember paying about $700 for my 1974 a couple of years ago. Mine also had the blackface conversion done. I spent another $300 or so to have it worked on (new Weber speakers), tubes, bias, etc by Scooter Barnes here in Denver so my total outlay was around a grand but it was worth it. This amp sings. Really sings. Anyhow, could it be that you've been seeing blackface supers? They are harder to find, older, seemingly more desirable and I do believe those go for $1200 plus. Just a thought. That's why i went with a silverface. Cheaper at the start and EASY to turn into blackface.

Peace,

Gil
