What about the Fender Jaguar Classic Player HH Guitar?

Has anybody tried one of these? Two humbuckers with a LOT of controls on whether they sound as single coil or humbucker (and "blend"?). Am I the only one who thinks this could have potential as a "Jerry" guitar? Your thoughts appreciated.

I find them too be too complex for my needs. Also kinda ugly, IMO. However, it appears to have a plethora of functionality that may very well give you an awesome pallet of tonal possibilities...

Have you played one?

I may go play one later today. I agree that there a a sh*tload of controls and that this means complexity. I am hoping that I could get a crisp Strat-ish sound and also fat lead sound when wanted.

Yes. Was overwhelmed by the controls. Took me about 5 minutes to get a good tone out of it. Maybe it will be more intuitive for you!

I'm not thinking that they are or will be intuitive. Just thinking that maybe there are some good tones lurking and that all the switching could let them come out if set properly.

So... I want the low end almost twang like the intro to early GDTRFB and I want the lead tones Jerry got in the mid-to late-70s on a song like Eyes of the world. So far, neither my Les Paul or my Stratocaster get me there. Stumbled across this paticular Jaguar in a local music store yesterday...

It is nice to to have a guitar that you could plug in and play like the Jag you are looking at.
A ebay guitar would probably need some work tuners;pups;new strings.
Nothing a little THC wont fix ...
Sounds like you want to get a closer Jerry sound than a "stock guitar" might give you ...
After all- many of Jerry's guitars are modded.

The Les Paul has whatever humbuckers came on a 1978 Les Paul Standard.The Stratocaster is a 8-9 year old American Standard with whatever it came with. They are white and say "Noiseless" on them in gold script on their lower right corners.

as strummin stated. jerry's axes had buffers. and also coil taps on the bridge and middle humbucker eventually having three humbuckers coil tapped. i am unsure if you know jerry's rig, but i would think that when he had humbuckers he could get that nice clarified buffered signal nice and clean thru a coil cut of the middle humbucker. and when he wanted a clean uneffected boost he would flip to series humbucker. if he wanted an effect he'd flip his effects loop onto whatever he needed. Lot's of parameters that need to be consider rather then looking on a shelf and getting exactly those tones. if it were that easy, a TON of players would be playing those guitars. jerry early on(71/72??) dumped stock guitars, and turned to custom 's, wired exactly how he wanted them. a lot of jerry's stuff was first custom made and or modded.

Okay, dude, here would be recipe for you:

First get a good tech.

Second, have a pair of hums that can be switched to single coil installed.

Then buy a buffer from Waldo to switch your signal to low impedance.

This will get you in the ball-park.

i agree strummin and appreciate the plug, as you well know there are plenty more aspects that need to get there also, such as amp and speakers. jer perferred the fender ab763 preamps of course modded and Jbl K or E -120 speakers. the buffer is just a piece of the puzzle, but you are right on in it being a place to start.

when you buffer your guitar you put a 9 volt and a preamp circuit in it. and when you plug your guitar in, it switches the whole thing on. and off when you remove it. so it becomes a part of your signal, always. the signal switches from a high impedance to low impedance. this eliminates any tone loss from cables which have a capacitance and a resistance. the capacitance and resistance ultimately rob your tone. the buffer is put as close to the pickups so that you get the truest signal from them to the amp combo or preamp.

Oh, very much agree, Waldo, with all the components.

However, he is close to where he wants but it takes 2 different guitars and he wanted to do it all on 1!
